Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Dispatcher 9-1-1 for the Police Department. Among the key duties of this position are the following: • Monitors, receives, and coordinates all communications with public safety field personnel from University Public Safety Headquarters, including emergency 9-1-1 calls and non-emergency phone calls. • Handles both in-person and telephone inquiries from the public. • Refers calls or dispatches assistance as appropriate. • Provides medical pre-arrival instructions for calls received via 9-1-1. • Monitors, updates, and maintains various departmental logs and lists.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement |
Rutgers University requires all new employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the employee a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same. Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of a vaccine approved or authorized for emergency use in the United States or a vaccine that has been listed for emergency use by the World Health Organization. Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Minimum Education and Experience |
Requires a high/vocational school diploma or equivalent, plus two years clerical experience. Must be a certified 9-1-1 operator or receive certification within 90 days of employment. Requires the ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats. Must be able to communicate effectively. Must have effective client service skills. Radio communications or dispatcher experience, and personal computer experience are preferred. In accordance with New Jersey State law, applicants must agree to undergo and authorize the university to conduct fingerprint, criminal history and/or child abuse record checks with various law enforcement agencies, including but not limited to: the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Identification Division and/or the New Jersey Division of State Police, Bureau of Identification. Applicants must also assume any costs incurred by the university associated with the background investigations whether required by statute or not. Must be able to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays; occasional overtime is required.
