Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Health Technician III for Rutgers Health Services. 
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Under the direct supervision of the Front Desk Supervisor or his/her designee, facilitates patient care at counseling centers providing reception services, making appointments, answering and directing telephone calls, chart organization and reports, daily schedules, insurance verification and general front office operations.  
  • Helps coordinate student care quickly and efficiently. 

General Summary:
Generates comprehensive computerized medical records and coordinates confidential medical reports. Helps coordinate student care quickly and efficiently.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Rutgers University requires all new employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the employee a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same. Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of a vaccine approved or authorized for emergency use in the United States or a vaccine that has been listed for emergency use by the World Health Organization. Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Minimum Education and Experience
Requires a high school/vocational school education or equivalent and three years clerical experience in a health care services or similar service environment. 
Requires demonstrated data entry/word-processing/typing skills; working knowledge and the ability to use basic spreadsheet, word-processing, database, and/or email software; and experience using a scanner and medical management system, and reading and completing health forms and medical documents. 
Must have effective client service skills. Must be able to communicate effectively; maintain confidentiality; be courteous and tactful under stress; and process cash, credit card, check payments. 
Medical Assistant Certificate preferred. 
May involve evening and weekend work.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Interest and/or experience in work within the mental healthcare, behavioral healthcare field.
  • Three years clerical experience in a health care/behavioral health services environment including experience with computers (e.g. email, scanner, medical management system).
Equipment Utilized
  • Medicat – electronic health records  software;electronic scanning and copiers; Microsoft Word, Excel, & Powerpoint. 
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Special Conditions
  • Ability to answer telephone and be understood in the English language.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks at one time (greet student, answer telephone, enter data into computer).
  • Ability to read health history forms and other medical documents.
  • Ability to deal with many students each day.
  • Ability to understand and communicate in the English language.
  • Ability to communicate with insurance companies and verify insurance.
  • Ability to enter data into computer, read data in it, scan documents and manage email. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to understanding diversity and multicultural issues.
