Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Expanded Duty Dental Assistant for the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM) – Rutgers Health University Dental Associates (RHUDA). Under the direction of the Program Administrator, the Expanded Duty Dental Assistant performs chair-side, desk-side and sterilization assistance for RHUDA providers. Assists providers during various examinations and treatment of patients. Performs other sterilizing, clerical, and miscellaneous tasks. Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Seats patient, adjusts chair, drapes patient with protective covers, communicates patient concerns with staff nurse and/or treating provider.
- Assists providers chair-side during standard and complex procedures.
- Anticipates the providers needs during procedures.
- Monitors anesthesia patients in recovery when necessary.
- Manages post-operative patient care.
- Cleans and sterilizes room after each use; prepares treatment room based on scheduled procedures.
- Serves as sterilization assistant.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement |
Rutgers University requires all new employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the employee a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same. Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of a vaccine approved or authorized for emergency use in the United States or a vaccine that has been listed for emergency use by the World Health Organization. Minimum Education and Experience |
- Satisfactory completion of a formal dental assisting program in an ADA approved program.
- A minimum of two (2) years of prior dental assistant experience.

Certifications/Licenses |
- Certification as a dental assistant and expanded duty assistant (RDA) in the State of New Jersey.
- Must possess a valid dental technology license issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
- Must possess a valid CPR certification.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |

Preferred Qualifications |

- Knowledge of implant surgical components.

- Must be able to lift patients, heavy boxes weighing up to forty (40) pounds, instrument sets weighing up to twenty (20) pounds; must be able to lift surgical supplies above the head.
