Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Virology
The Center for Infectious Disease Research (CIDR) at George Mason University (GMU), invites well-qualified candidates to apply for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position at Dr. Yuntao Wu’s lab (Cell, 2008, 134:782; PNAS, 2020,117:9537) in the area of HIV-1 Virology and Immunology. Responsibilities:
The incumbent will work in the laboratory of Dr. Yuntao Wu and report directly to Dr. Wu.
Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Work on NIH-funded projects involving the molecular and cellular basis of host responses and host restriction factors in the infection and pathogenesis of HIV-1;
  • Assist the PI and graduate students in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments; and
  • Perform experiments in the culture of primary blood and stem cells, viral infections, and biochemical/molecular approaches to study HIV-1 infection of mature T cells and progenitors. 

 
Required Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Virology, Immunology, stem cell biology, or Developmental Biology, or a closely related field prior to the start date of the appointment; 
  • Candidate should be enthusiastic and dedicated, have the ability and interest in learning new techniques; 
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions; and
  • Be observant, attentive to detail, organized, efficient, and works well with others.

 
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Previous experience in molecular biology, immunology, or stem cell research. HIV-1 research experiences are desired, but not required; and
  • Strong English writing skills. 

This position is full-time with benefits. The initial appointment will be for one year and subject to annual renewal based on performance and the availability of funding. The anticipated starting salary is in the low to mid $50’s.
