Position Highlights |
The UA Castro Research Group’s research interests are climate change, weather, and climate extremes in arid and semi-arid region through physics-based regional climate modeling tools. In recent years, the team has dedicated their effort to advance extreme weather forecast lead time at sub-seasonal time scale for South America and Middle East. This post-doc position will provide a unique research opportunity to participate in domestic and international projects, as well as participation in a newly formed research center: Center for Applied Science in HydroMEteorology for Resilience (CASHMERE).

Duties & Responsibilities |
The UA Castro Research Group’s research interests
are climate change, weather, and climate extremes in arid and semi-arid region
through physics-based regional climate modeling tools. In recent years, the
team has dedicated their effort to advance extreme weather forecast lead time
at sub-seasonal time scale for South America and Middle East. This post-doc
position will provide a unique research opportunity to participate in domestic
and international projects, as well as participation in a newly formed research
center: Center for Applied Science in HydroMEteorology for Resilience
(CASHMERE). - Data pre-processing and post-processing of observation and numerical modeling results
- Design and execute simulation plans for the Weather Research and Forecasting model
- Data analysis for weather and climate means, extremes, and distributions
- Development of forecast skill verification matrix for weather extremes in arid and semi-arid regions
- Dissemination of scientific results; peer-reviewed publications and presentation of results at domestic and international conferences
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: - Basic knowledge of parallel programming on HPC architectures and UNIX/Linux operating systems
- Basic skills in programming languages and visualization languages
- Strong proficiency in implementing and developing regional climate models
- Excellent knowledge and skills in programming languages (in particular Fortran) and visualization languages (Python, NCL, or Matlab)

Minimum Qualifications |
- Must have received a Ph.D. in the field of environmental sciences, physics, or applied mathematics, upon hire
- Sufficient proficient experience in physics-based modeling
|
Preferred Qualifications |
- Ph.D. received in Atmospheric Science, Hydrometeorology, general physics or applied mathematics
- Proficient experience in UNIX/Linux operating systems and parallel programming on HPC architectures
