POSITION TITLE: President and Chief Executive Officer
REPORTS TO: Board of Directors through Board Chair
POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Executive Administrative Assistant / Membership Coordinator, Chamber volunteers

The President/ CEO is responsible and accountable to the Board of Directors to provide executive leadership to the Uptown Chamber of Commerce. The President provides creative business leadership that promotes the Uptown Chamber of Commerce, Temple Terrace, City of Tampa, and Hillsborough County. The Uptown Chamber President handles the overall supervisory responsibility of employees and volunteers. Interacts with members of the community, businesses, agencies, and individuals who support or otherwise work with the Chamber of Commerce. Overall responsibility for bringing in new members and sustaining current members.

Oversees and coordinates all Chamber events with event chairs which includes setting and managing financial details and reporting, sponsor recruitment and recognition, committee meetings, correspondence, advertising and other related duties to ensure the smooth execution of the events as follows: Business of the Year Awards Event,

Business Expo, Network & Taste Event, Student Awards Recognition Luncheon, Citizen of the Year Award Recognition, New Teacher Welcome Breakfast, Annual Meeting and Installation Banquet and other events as determined by the Board of Directors

The President/CEO will represent the Uptown Chamber at public, private, and governmental functions and meetings thereby ensuring that these agencies and officials are appraised of the programs and needs of the Chamber. This positon also serves on the Tampa Innovation Partnership Advisory Committee, attends Temple Terrace City Council meetings as well as Hillsborough County Commissioner meetings as necessary.


  • Member recruitment, retention and satisfaction by maintaining open communication with Chamber members and providing a welcoming environment.
  • Identify and secure financial sponsorships to support events with the help and support of the Chamber membership.
  • Motivate members to physically support events and programs.
  • Analyze and interpret the Chamber events to ensure they meet the needs of Chamber members.
  • Structure the internal operations to most efficiently carryout the organization’s mission.
  • Coordination and production of the Annual Chamber Member Business Directory.
  • Preparation of the annual budget and presentation of all monthly financial reports.
  • Manage the annual election of officers, by preparation of candidate profiles, distribution and tallying of ballots, and notifying winning candidates.
  • Ensure that all contracts for leasing and maintaining office equipment are current.
  • Ensure that all funds are disbursed in accordance with the established approved budget and that the checkbook is balanced monthly.
  • Manage staff including hiring, training, evaluations and day-to-day job related issues in order to maintain a professional office.
  • Coordinate all Chamber meetings, including supervising the preparation of all correspondence, date and location arrangements, refreshments, invitations/announcements, and reservations, in coordination with the chamber coordinator of member services.
  • Attends all regularly scheduled meetings, including:

o Networking Socials

o Ribbon Cutting events

o Chamber Luncheons

o Event committee meetings

o Monthly Board of Directors Meeting

  • Attend ancillary meetings as time permits including:

o President’s Roundtable

o New Member Monthly Coffee

o Referral Groups

o Ambassador Committee

Oversee the general finances of the Chamber

  • Develop an annual budget for the Chamber’s operations that delineates projected revenues and expenses and a projected net profit as appropriate.
  • Lead, direct and develop Chamber’s fund-raising strategies and campaigns.
  • Monitor Chamber’s fiscal condition


  • Demonstrated ability to find creative solutions and appropriate activities to meet the needs of the business community.
  • Ability to set and manage budget requirements and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Considerable knowledge of the community.
  • Experience in managing a professional staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others with dignity and respect, including chamber members, staff, volunteers, community leaders, etc.
  • Ability to take direction from Chamber Board.
  • Considerable knowledge of standard office procedures and practices, including personal computers using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, and Quick Books
  • Recognized development, management and marketing skills, and the ability to analyze and comprehend fiscal problems.


  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, psychology, development, marketing, or a related field, or comparable years of experience.
  • Five years of experience within the service/business community.

The President/CEO is entitled to all holidays and personal days within the approved employee benefits plan and the following vacation schedule:

One to Three Years: 2 weeks
Three to Seven Years: 3 weeks
Seven and above: 4 weeks

The Chair of the Board will evaluate the President/CEO on an annual basis or anytime as may be needed.

Established in 1963, the Uptown Chamber of Commerce, (formerly Greater Temple Terrace Chamber of Commerce) is a nonprofit membership organization that connects more than 400 Business and Organizations, making the Uptown and Temple Terrace Community a better place to live, work & play. Our active membership consists of local businesses, professionals, non-profits, and government representatives. Our primary focus area is Temple Terrace, FL, the Uptown District of Tampa, FL and Hillsborough County.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $42,000.00 per year
