Dr. Kimberly Jacob Arriola is seeking a post-doctoral fellow to work on several studies in the domain of racial disparities in access to renal transplantation. These studies include two NIH-funded studies, one that seeks to improve access to live donor kidney transplant among African Americans and a second that examines the role of race-related stress in chronic kidney disease progression among African Americans. The post-doctoral fellow will have the opportunity to work on additional projects, all pertaining to improving the health of African Americans, with the specific work distribution depending on experience and interests. In addition to analyzing quantitative data and publishing papers on the projects described above, the post-doctoral fellow may have opportunities to contribute to other ongoing manuscripts, develop independent research proposals, collaborate in the development of research proposals, receive training at workshops, and present scientific work at national/international scientific conferences.
Dr. Arriola is Dean of the Laney Graduate School of Emory University but maintains a faculty appointment in the Department of Behavioral, Social, and Health Education Sciences in the Rollins School of Public Health of Emory University. This department offers a rich environment for training and collaborative work, hosting regular department events and seminars that foster community among students, faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and staff and provide opportunities for continued learning.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.


• A PhD plus experience or MPH in Behavioral, Social, and Health Education Sciences or other relevant field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster a good working relationship with others on the team and collaborators.
• Expertise in data cleaning, management and analysis using SPSS or SAS.
• Experience conceptualizing and writing scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
• Familiarity with the research literature on racial disparities in transplantation


The post-doctoral fellow will be under the mentorship of Dr. Kimberly Jacob Arriola and will have the opportunity to collaborate with leaders in the field. The position will be based at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. The initial appointment is for two-years, and renewal is anticipated if performance is satisfactory and funds remain available.
