Research Specialist
Job Description
The Biodesign Center for Mechanisms of Evolution department is seeking a Research Specialist Lab Technician who is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and development of biological materials for research projects funded by several federal grants in a lab containing approximately 30 researchers ranging from undergraduates to postdoctoral fellows.

Essential Duties
- Maintenance of sterile laboratory stocks of organisms ranging from algae to microcrustaceans to ciliates to bacteria.
- Preparation of samples for various research projects.
- Isolation of DNA for whole-genome sequencing projects.
- Record keeping associated with various projects.
- Supervision of undergraduate hourlies.
- Oversight of biological protocols and laboratory procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two years related research experience; OR, Six years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Evidence of a B.S. and/or M.S. degree in the life sciences.
- Evidence of organizational skills and an ability to work well with others.
Working Environment
- Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking.
- Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties.
- Regular review of completed tasks.
