JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Physiology, in Hershey, PA is seeking a postdoctoral scholar. A NIH-funded post-doctoral position is available in Dr. Shengyu Yang’s lab to teach and to study the role of mitochondrial actin filaments in cancer metastasis. Our goal is to reveal how the dysregulated actin cytoskeleton in metastatic cancer cells controls mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation by remodeling the mitochondrial actin filaments.  This project is built on our recent discoveries that the actin cytoskeleton remodeling in metastatic cancer cells is able to control mitochondrial metabolism through regulating the homeostasis of mtDNA and the biogenesis of mitochondrial respiratory chain. Biochemistry, cell biology, live cell imaging techniques, genetically engineered mouse models and patient-derived xenografts will be employed in the study.

The successful applicant will be a highly motivated recent graduate with a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and will have expertise in cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or related fields.  The Ph.D. must be in hand by time of start. Experience with fluorescence imaging, super-resolution microscopy and genetically engineered mouse models is desirable but not required.

This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire.
