General Description of the Position
The Department of Biological Sciences at Delaware State University seeks applicants for a 9-month tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor in the area of Cell Biology / Immunology. A Ph.D. degree in Biology with strong research experienceis required. The successful candidate should be able to teach cell biology and immunology at the undergraduate level, along with teaching other graduate / undergraduate courses as the need arises. Preference is given to candidates with experience working with a diverse student population, including prior teaching experience. Capability for attracting extramural funding and establishing a vital research program involving undergraduate and graduate research students is expected. The successful candidate is also expected to mentor student research, serve on departmental and/or university-wide committees, and will report directly to the Department Chairperson.
Essential Functions Teach biology courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, as assigned by the Department Chair, (general biology and within the area of expertise). Class size will vary based on University needs.Complete departmental and university requirements as expected (e.g. meeting attendance, office hours, professional development trainings, collection of assessment data, grade submission).Design and develop courses that engage student learning, facilitate academic success, and employ current techniques and teaching tools that maintain an invigorating learning environment with measurable learning goals.Communicate effectively with students, staff and faculty.Mentor assigned undergraduate advisees.Effectively design and implement graduate and undergraduate research projects and thesis preparation through effective mentorship.Contribute to the areas of research, teaching, and service as expected for a tenure-track position.Secure competitive research funding and maintain an active research lab that supports graduate and undergraduate research.Routinely write and submit grants, and publish current research findings in peer-reviewed journals appropriate for their field of expertise.

The individual in this job must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.Ability to teach biology (lecture and lab) at the undergraduate and graduate level.Ability to establish an independently funded research program.Ability to effectively mentor undergraduate and graduate research.Oral and written communication skills.Commitment to service at the departmental and university level.
Ph.D. degree in Biology/Immunology or related field; postdoctoral experience preferred.
