Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Department of Medicine within the New Jersey Medical School. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Fellow will play a critical role in the successful testing and implementation of diagnostic tests for Tuberculosis, including detection of drug resistance, being developed in the Alland laboratory and submitted to the laboratory for evaluation by outside agencies. Including but not limited to Cepheid’s GeneXpert tests, digital PCR diagnostics and cell free DNA analysis. Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Primer and probe design, assay multiplexing, bioinformatic investigation and in silico modeling of primer and probe sequences, optimizing sample processing using novel chemistries, buffers, and mechanical separation approaches, designing bioinformatic pipelines for data interpretation and reporting of next generation sequencing results.
- Performs analytic analysis and trouble shoots innovative new TB assays as part of the FEND diagnostic program.
- Assists in planning, direction, and conduct of the FEND TB analytic core.
- Effectively communicates with academic and commercial partners on the performance of relevant TB assays.
- Manage and troubleshoot instruments and will perform a variety of research experiences related to bacterial mutation and detection.
- Conducts experiments in persistence models of M. tuberculosis.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Training in BSL3 practices, and willingness to work with virulent and drug-resistant M. tuberculosis.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience includes independent design and conduction of genetic and microbiological studies, experience performing unsupervised work in the BSLIII on M. tuberculosis, ability to analyze next generation DNA sequencing data.
- Experience in automated, high-throughput fluidic studies of bacterial growth.
