Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the NJ Gun Violence Research Center within the School of Public Health.  Under the direction of center leadership, the Postdoctoral Fellow collects, records and analyzes data, prepares reports for peer-reviewed scientific publications and conference presentations, and contributes to the writing of IRB applications and grants. The Postdoctoral Fellow will assist with the development, implementation and analysis of gun violence related projects. The Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct research in various areas of gun violence, under the direction of Center leadership. The Postdoctoral Fellow will keep abreast of current theoretical and experimental literature related to gun violence from various disciplines.  
The NJ Gun Violence Research Center seeks to create safe and healthy environments for NJ residents to live, learn, work, and play by providing high-quality, multi-disciplinary research on gun violence causality and prevention and translate this research into clear and actionable policies and programs. The center partners with relevant local-, state-and national-level experts, securing access to data to conduct and support research that identifies etiologic factors for gun violence, develops and rigorously evaluates interventions to reduce the burden of gun violence, and translates science into effective programs and policies to ensure their widespread adoption. 
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Prepares peer-reviewed research publications and scientific grant writing.
  • Presents scientific/research contents in institutional, national and international forums.
  • Contributes to writing of IRB applications and grants to respective agencies.
  • Collects, records and analyzes data.
  • Provides support for the daily operations of the center, including training/supervising students.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. Degree in a relevant field (Public Health, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, Law, Nursing, Social Work, Public Health, or other). 
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong background in quantitative or qualitative research methodology
  • Demonstrated analytical and research skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Essential ability to interact effectively and sustain relationships with investigators, colleagues and partners at multiple locations.
  • Able to work independently and in teams.
  • Excellent organization, planning, project management, and problem solving skills.
