A post-doctoral position at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Grand Forks, ND, is available immediately to study the role of changes in the brain and colon during age, colon cancer, and Alzheimer’s Disease. Using mouse models and behavioral, immunological, histological, and molecular methods, the post-doc will determine mechanistic relationships between colon cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. This position foresees extensive use of transgenic mice.

Compensation and Appointment:

Position: Postdoctoral Research Fellow,

Remuneration / Salary: $28,356/year; commensurate with qualifications

This position is a 20 hour per week, non-tenure track, special appointment with University of North Dakota (UND) School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), Department of Biomedical Sciences in year one and increases to a full-time (40 hour per week), non-tenure track, special appointment in the department in years two and three.

Job Summary and Responsibilities:

The post-doc will design and carry out experiments related to neuroimmune and genetic changes in the colon and the brain during age as well as Alzheimer’s disease using mouse models of colon cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. The post-doc will perform experiments, data analysis, write research papers of her/his findings and present the work at national meetings. Additionally, the post-doc will supervise students and junior lab members.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. and/or MD with at least 2 years of post-doctoral experience.

  • Demonstrable research experience in cancer research and two or more of the following areas: cancer cell biology, DNA repair proteins, protein purification, DNA-protein interactions, structural biology, protein biochemistry, and molecular biology.

  • Must have published at least one peer-reviewed first author papers in a cancer related area.

  • Successful completion of a criminal history records check.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

Preferred Requirements:

  • >1 peer reviewed first author publication related to cancer.

  • Experience with drug intervention research and cancer.

  • Experience with circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy.

  • Experience with protein purification.
