Position Description:
This full-time, 8-week term internship provides a unique, hands-on opportunity to experience the museum education department of a major, international art institution. The intern will gain essential skills and knowledge of a working education team by supporting on-site programs, targeted audience development for both school and community programs, and other department activities.
Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Prepare art materials for weekly summer art-making and Community Day, set up materials for programs, and organize materials post-program.
- Co-facilitate art-making sessions as part of the Clark’s weekly summer art-making and Community Day programs, providing a warm, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all visitors.
- Design program and event ephemera, including art-making instructions, wayfinding signage, and more.
- Brainstorm themes, art-making activities, and potential collaborators for upcoming community engagement events.
- Maintain public engagement spaces such as ArtLab and the Postcard Station.
- Assist with a multifaceted, community-based program that explores the therapeutic potential of art to improve mental health and wellbeing:
- Update and develop materials for client resource folders and distribute folders to all existing practitioners.
- Brainstorm and foster new relationships with mental health practitioners in the community.
- Update and revise existing ephemera and support with marketing efforts for reoccurring seasonal programs, including Meet Me at the Clark, New Parents, and Start with Art.
- Assist with planning for an August professional development session for Berkshire County Art teachers.
- Support a new initiative to foster deeper collaborations with public schools in the Albany capital region and southern Vermont:
- Conduct research to determine which schools within the targeted areas have school-wide Title 1 programs.
- Analyze web content to find appropriate school contacts, and review school district calendars to identify designated professional development dates for future connections.
- Examine existing Education Department data to determine which Albany capital region districts visit the Clark and their frequency of visits.
- Other duties as assigned.
Hourly Rate: $18.00
Minimum Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to critically evaluate and update educational materials.
- Proficiency in conducting research and verifying sources.
- Juniors and seniors only; art history major/minor; and interest in education.
Education, Training, and Skills
Applicants must be current junior or senior students at Williams College or Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA).
Work Experience
Office experience helpful but not required.
