Title Assistant or Associate Professor of Epidemiology
School Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health
Department/Area Epidemiology
Position Description
The Department of Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (HSPH) invites applications from candidates for a faculty position as assistant or associate professor of epidemiology, with a focus on Alzheimer’s disease and other sources of age-related cognitive decline.
The successful candidate will contribute to expanding the department’s role as a center for epidemiologic research and training. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, etiologic and prognostic research, integration of biomarkers and imaging into research studies, and comparative-effectiveness research. The recruited faculty member will be expected to conduct original empirical research in Alzheimer’s disease, other forms of dementia, other neurodegenerative diseases, or age-related cognitive decline and will have the opportunity for departmental engagement in these areas with related efforts within the Harvard Chan School, Harvard Medical School, and Harvard teaching hospitals (e.g., the Nurses’ Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow-up Study, the Center for Alzheimer Research and Treatment, and the Massachusetts Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center).  The successful candidate will also participate actively in teaching and in the direction of training programs in this area. In order to better support a diverse community of students, research scientists, and postdoctoral fellows, our faculty are expected to effectively engage learners with a wide-ranging set of perspectives and cultural backgrounds, and to seek growth and professional development in those areas.
The Department of Epidemiology offers an exceptional environment in which to pursue research and education in quantitative public health while being at the forefront of efforts to benefit the health of populations worldwide. Areas of collaborative strength in the Department of Epidemiology include epidemiologic methods and biostatistics, neuro- and psychiatric epidemiology, cardiovascular and aging epidemiology, nutritional epidemiology, social epidemiology, and clinical epidemiology. Research in the department is enabled by access to a number of large longitudinal studies and extensive collaboration with academic departments across the School and University along with well-developed faculty mentoring and faculty development programs.
The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health seeks to recruit and retain excellent public health scholars, educators, and practitioners so as to foster and develop one of the world’s best research communities. We are committed to upholding the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in our hiring and promotion processes, and hope to hire someone who can help promote these values through activities in both their research and teaching as well as interest in supervising and mentoring across culturally diverse backgrounds. Women and individuals from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
Basic Qualifications
Candidates must have a doctorate in epidemiology or a related field, or a medical degree and graduate level training in epidemiology (or substantial experience with the application of epidemiologic methods). A commitment to research and teaching in the field of Alzheimer’s disease and related conditions is also required. Early career investigators are particularly encouraged to apply.
