This position is part-time, 25 hours per week, 40 weeks per year position in coordination with the colleges academic calendar. General work hours are Monday – Thursday, 12:00pm – 5:00pm and Friday, 11:00am – 4:00pm. Work hours may vary based upon the store hours.

SUMMARY:

Responsible for providing front line customer service for all products and services offered through the bookstore. Examples of duties include greeting and welcoming customers, cashiering and handling all types of transactions, pulling and filling orders for books and materials. Working with a diverse population of customers and answering phone, in person, and electronic inquires.

The position also includes providing training and support for student and seasonal employees as well as other tasks such as stocking and cleaning. This position will have responsibilities to close the bookstore daily and work hours will vary based upon the store hours. This position is part time (25 hours/week) 40 weeks/year in coordination with the colleges academic calendar.

This position reports to the Associate Manager, Bookstore Retail and works together with other staff in the bookstore and may provide back up support to other areas within the college.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides cashiering services in the bookstore. Receives and records bookstore monies, cash, credit cards, checks, gift cards, AR transactions, and makes change for customers. Responsible for completing general daily financial reports.

  • Provides front line customer service for all products and services offered through the bookstore. Examples include; greeting and welcoming customers, pulling and filling orders for books and materials, filling and checking out web orders, answering phone, in person, and electronic inquires.

  • Handles closing of store and all functions related; counting down cash drawers, cash verification, securing monies and store.

  • Restocks and organizes store shelves and creates shelf tags as needed. Creates store displays as needed.

  • Trains, supports, and guides student and seasonal employees.

  • Shares responsibility for controlling store inventory and communicating store needs with internal contacts.

  • Maintains order, cleanliness and replenishes work areas and cashier stations. Performs operation, minor adjustments and basic maintenance of cash registers.

  • Acts as backup for department staff to include filling in for absences both scheduled and unscheduled.

  • Maintains a commitment to the college mission, vision and values. Comply with college policies, directives, and work rules. Engages positively with colleagues, handles conflict directly and professionally, contributes to team discussions, collaborates and helps colleagues, assumes the best from colleagues, provides and accepts constructive feedback, follows through on commitments, and supports final decisions that are made.

  • Other duties as defined by department, college, or officials.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.

  • Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.

  • Knowledge and skill in using computers and cash registers to complete transactions.

  • Skill in providing quality customer service to all customers. This includes in person, over the phone, and using electronic communications.

  • Skill in handling money, customer data, sensitive documents and information. This includes knowledge of rules, regulations, and procedures in keeping these things secure.

  • Skill and confidence in handling a lead cashiering role.

  • Skill in guiding, supporting, and training student and casual employees.

  • Skill and ability to stand for long periods of time, move about the store to assist customers, stock shelves, and maintain a clean and organized retail space.

  • Ability to prioritize, make decisions, and work independently.

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds.

  • Skill in maintaining organization in work areas, retail space, and storage areas.

MINIMUMS:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • One (1) year (2,000 hours) of work experience in cashier and providing customer service in a retail environment.
