Job Description Summary
  • The Art & Design Department at the University of Southern Indiana invites applications for a productive scholar and effective teacher of Art Education and Foundations-level art courses. This tenure-track position starts at the rank of Assistant Professor of Art Education beginning in the fall of 2022. The position comes with full benefits and salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position requires excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills along with the ability to relate well to students and colleagues.
  • The candidate will teach the equivalent of a 3/3 studio course load per year. These courses include art education methods courses leading to the BS or BA in Visual Art P-12 Teaching Major or Art Teaching (Elementary/Secondary) Minor; foundation courses, which include beginning drawing, 2-dimensional design, 3-dimensional design, and introduction to digital media, and/or other studio courses in the candidate’s field of expertise. The candidate will maintain the Art & Design Department’s visual arts teaching program as specified by NASAD accreditation requirements, continue to work with the state board of teacher accreditation, supervise student teacher education, and coordinate with the University of Southern Indiana’s Teacher Education program. The candidate will oversee the department’s foundation courses, ensuring quality and consistency within the curriculum by organizing and directing the assessment of these courses.
  • The candidate will be motivated in their own creative scholarship and research practices, sustaining service to their field/profession. The candidate will have a record of teaching effectiveness in the P-12 schools and/or full-time elementary or secondary (P-12) school art teaching experience, an understanding of current trends in art education, challenges facing the field, and state/national standards for art educators, and the ability to teach beginning drawing, 2-dimensional design, 3-dimensional design, and introduction to digital media. Experience teaching at least two of the four subjects is preferred. The candidate will also serve the department, college, and university on committees and in other capacities as needed by the university.
Qualified candidates must have a doctoral degree in Art Education or a Master of Fine Arts.
