Who is Saint Louis University? Founded in 1818, Saint Louis University is one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious Catholic universities. SLU, which also has a campus in Madrid, Spain, is recognized for world-class academics, life-changing research, compassionate health care, and a strong commitment to faith and service.

All About You

The Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at Saint Louis University invites applications for two three-year post-doctoral fellowships with an emphasis on undergraduate teaching and curriculum development. The positions begin August 15, 2022. We are seeking applicants who are enthusiastic about teaching courses that link the study of women, gender, and sexuality with pressing questions arising in the STEM fields. We have a particular interest in candidates working in the following teaching and research areas: gender, sexuality, race, and health/health care; and science, technology, and environmental studies. Fellows will assist the department in launching interdisciplinary courses through the university’s new undergraduate core. The teaching load is 3/3 and the salary is competitive.

Preference will be given to candidates who have a Ph.D. in Women’s, Gender, and/or Sexuality Studies, but the committee will consider applications from candidates who have a Ph.D. in related fields along with a WGS/S graduate credential or an established, substantial research agenda in WGS/S. Well-qualified applicants who are ABD and can document that they will have their degree in hand by August 2022 are also eligible for consideration. We especially welcome applications from scholars in underrepresented groups, including minority race and/or gender non-conforming people.

Vaccine Protocol: Saint Louis University will require COVID-19 vaccinations for all students, staff, and faculty who are physically present on our St. Louis campuses. As a prospective and/or a new employee at Saint Louis University, you will be required to comply with the University’s vaccination protocol. Proof of full vaccination will be required before the start of employment in order to work at Saint Louis University. If you are not vaccinated, you will be required to begin the vaccination process at the time of your first day of employment. Exemptions may be granted on the grounds of religious beliefs or medical circumstances.

Equal opportunity/affirmative action Statement: Saint Louis University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. All qualified candidates will receive consideration for the position applied for without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, military/veteran status, gender identity, or other non-merit factors. We welcome and encourage applications from minorities, women, protected veterans, and individuals with disabilities (including disabled veterans). If accommodations are needed for completing the application and/or with the interviewing process, please contact Human Resources at 314-977-5847.

Saint Louis University is one of ten institutions participating in the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) Post-Doctoral Diversity Consortium , an initiative “dedicated to expanding diversity within the professoriate.” Successful applicants who come to SLU as part of this program will be connected to meaningful professional development opportunities and a national cohort of peers also teaching at institutions of Jesuit higher education.

Applications should include a cover letter that describes the candidate’s interest in undergraduate education, CV, sample syllabi, and a contact list of references.
