Director of Utility Line Clearance/Tree Trimmer Program

Classification/Points: Level B Administrative Scale

Bargaining Unit/Division: None

Position Description:

Provides development, coordination and supervision of the non-credit and credit educational program activities and staff specific to the creation of a Utility Line Clearance/Tree Trimmer training program. Responsible for determining content and services for the area, recruiting and supervising faculty, budget planning, monitoring schedule development and evaluation of courses taught within the area while contributing to the ongoing improvement of program curriculum. The work schedule may fluctuate throughout the academic year with more of an emphasis on the fall and spring semesters (August – April) and less emphasis on the summer semester (May – July).

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops and coordinates new Utility Line Clearance/Tree Trimmer program course schedule and coordinates the schedule with the Dean of Workforce Development and Vice President of Instruction.
  • Recruits adjunct faculty in cooperation with the appropriate academic department.
  • Provides up to 7 contact hours of instruction per semester.
  • Coordinates student recruitment activities in cooperation with the Admissions Office.
  • Develops, justifies and monitors the program budget and authorizes budget expenditures.
  • Directs the student registration process for the program, including coordination with dual enrollment and Early College programs.
  • Implements college policies and procedures pertaining to admissions and academic standards and follows up on student complaints and concerns.
  • Prepares program to easily transition from non-credit to credit.
  • Coordinates faculty and curriculum issues with the Dean of Workforce Development and the Vice President of Instruction.
  • Assists with grant required reporting and data gathering.
  • Coordinates program advisory committee activities.
  • Assists with job placement efforts for Utility Line Clearance/Tree Trimmer students.
  • Serves as the college’s representative for community related activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean of Workforce Development and Vice President of Instruction.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Position Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma and industry specific certifications required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of full-time experience in forestry, utility line clearance, tree service or related field required.
  • Experience within a community college work environment preferred.
  • Supervisory and management experience within an organization dealing with the public required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Experience with the development and implementation of recruitment, marketing, and project management strategies preferred.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with staff and student-related issues required.
  • Willingness to travel required.
