Garage Maintenance Specialist

We are seeking an entry level Maintenance Specialist for the APL Garage to provide general support for the APL Fleet Maintenance and Ground Services Group. The Garage Maintenance Specialist will provide various services to support the maintenance of the APL fleet including fueling, interior/exterior cleaning, minor servicing of cars, light trucks, bicycles and industrial equipment, also transporting vehicles to vendor locations and to provide a positive customer experience for all levels of APL Staff and Sponsors.
As the Garage Maintenance Specialist you will...
- Perform general automotive maintenance shop duties such as organizing, cleaning, and looking for any safety related issues.
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance such as tire repairs, jump-starts and battery charging.
- Perform repairs, maintenance, and distribution of the APL bicycle fleet.
- Check all shop supplies such as lubricants, coolant, washer fluid, transmission fluid, new oil, used oil/antifreeze, fuel levels. Assist in stocking incoming parts from vendors
- Pickup and drop-off vehicles and equipment. Pickup of parts at various vendor locations. Escort service vendors as needed.
- Perform tasks to ensure the facility meets APL, local, and government standards.
- Assist coworkers, automotive technicians, grounds maintenance specialists and administrative personnel.
- Provide support for grounds maintenance activities as needed
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- Have a general understanding of activities performed in an automotive garage facility.
- Possess organizational abilities and good communication skills.
- Possess demonstrated proficiency in both written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate with all levels of Laboratory staff.
- Have experience working in a customer-oriented environment.
- Have a valid state of residence driver’s license. The selected candidate will be subject to a driving record evaluation and background investigation.
- Are willing and able to work daytime, Monday-Friday possible overtime could be needed during special projects/activities participation on the APL Snow Crew is mandatory and may require after hours support.
- Will wear safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection and other personal protective gear and safety equipment as needed.
- Are able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...
- Have knowledge of automotive maintenance and inventory/warehouse experience.
- Have a general understanding with computer and software applications including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, iMaint Fleet and Fuel Master.
- Bicycle repair experience
- General understanding of grounds maintenance equipment operation
- Possess a current DOT Medical Examiner's Card.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
