Job Description
Position Summary
The lead level class of the series. The Lead Maintenance Painter assigns and reviews work of Maintenance Painters, and performs skilled painting work, interior and exterior wall preparations, finishes, and repairs.

Incumbents clean, hand or power wash, size, sandpaper, steel wool, scrape and sandblast surfaces preparatory to painting; mix, match, and apply latex and oil based paints, varnishes, stains, shellac, lacquers, enamels and other finishes; prepare sheetrock, wood siding, metal, brick, stucco, cement and various synthetic construction products for paints and finishes; clean and care for brushes, rollers and spray guns and related equipment; erect and rig scaffolds; cover woodwork and furniture to protect it from paint overspray, cleaners, or thinners; remove spattered paint after job is complete; check condition of woodwork, noting need for carpentry repairs; inspect and maintain paint shop equipment and vehicles; inspect buildings or other items needing painting; obtain quotes from vendors on equipment, repairs or services to be contracted out, and schedule and monitor the installation of these services; manage/prioritize work orders; estimate time, materials and cost involved; maintain records and reports of same. Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- EXPERIENCE: Completion of a formal painter apprenticeship program, plus four years of experience as a journey-level painter; OR, eight years of experience as a journey level painter.
