Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist V for the Center for Advanced Biotechnology & Medicine (CABM) within Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. 
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Teaching Specialist V (RTS V) conducts specialized research and performs various research and technical operations relative to the ongoing 
investigatory activities of the laboratory. The RTS V will be responsible for the performance and analysis of experiments focused on RNA metabolism in stem cells, development and disease, using in vitro cellular models as well as transgenic mice. The project is part of a larger effort in the lab to identify molecular players involved in RNA metabolism in the context of health and disease. The RTS_V, will be responsible for planning and performing experiments requiring the application of standard cell and molecular biology techniques as well as mouse genetics. The RTS V may assist with coordinating a team of undergraduate students involved in this effort and will work closely with the PI and Postdoctoral (Postdoc) Fellow to allocate tasks and oversee progress. This is a grant-funded position contingent on the availability of funds to support it. 
Among the key duties of this position are the following: 
* Performs cell/tissue cultures and maintains culture stocks and records. 
* Performs preparation and organization of chemicals, reagents, and media. 
* Performs daily operations of the laboratory including submitting purchase orders and maintains research supplies and equipment/instrumentation in the laboratory. 
* Responsible for planning and executing experiments in mice, including maintaining mouse colonies, breeding, genotyping and data recording, establishing xenograft tumors, drug treatments, tumor size measurements, and tumor/tissue resection. 
* Performs standard cell and molecular biology techniques including PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, immunofluorescence and microscopy, immunohistochemical staining, cell growth and viability assays, and flow cytometry.

Minimum Education and Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry or related field and a passion to continue working and learning in these areas.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Demonstrated knowledge of standard molecular biology and cell biology techniques. 
* Demonstrated knowledge of proper handling of transgenic mice and mouse work techniques. 
* Proficient in spoken and written English.
Preferred Qualifications
* Prior relevant research experience working with transgenic mice. 
* Prior relevant research experience using standard molecular biology and cell biology techniques. 
* Prior relevant cell and tissue culture experience.
Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment
* Manual dexterity and vision sufficient for standard laboratory operations including pipetting and use of microscopes. 
* Lab environment. Universal precautions are mandatory.
