Posting Summary
An NIH-funded collaborative effort at Rutgers University with collaborations with the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, is currently seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Scientist to investigate the use of novel targeted optical contrast nano-agents for imaging cancer and other diseases. He/she will join a research effort that will bridge the fields of biomaterial synthesis (at a nanoscale), cancer biology, optical imaging system development, pre-clinical testing, and image analysis.  The project will entail developing novel applications for the use of the contrast agent in translational disease models. A basic understanding of the project can be obtained through the publications (D. Naczynski et al., Nat Comm 2013; M.Zevon et al., Small 2015 and Kantamneni et al., Nat BME 2017). A track record of publication in one or more of these fields is expected.

Minimum Education and Experience
Candidates must have a PhD with background in the quantitative sciences (physics, biology, mathematics, or engineering); a good working knowledge with the study of cancer is highly desirable. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, organizational, and communication skills are mandatory for the position.   Time-management, multitasking and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced research program are essential.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Previous experience with the following abilities is preferred: 
  •  Cell/tissue culture, 
  • Animal handling techniques
  • Plasmid purifications, transfections/transductions, 
  • PCR and RT-PCR
  • Knowledge of software for statistical tools, visual aid preparation, and complex data analysis (eg FloJo) is desired.
  • Lab management
