THIS IS A 100% GRANT FUNDED POSITION

Position Description:Photonic Sensors Systems Research Group at Delaware State University seeks a qualified candidate for the postdoctoral researcher position. The position involves multidisciplinary research in laser spectroscopy, optical design, mid-infrared lasers, and laser-based sensors. Candidates will work in this cross-disciplinary research areas of applied physics, atmospheric and environmental sensing. Individuals with evidence of experience in scholarly research and a strong commitment to excellence in education are encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Optics, Physics, Materials Science, or a related area is required. Appointments will be for one year, with the possibility of renewal pending funding and satisfactory performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Duties may vary and other duties may be assigned):

  • Conduct independent research in laser spectroscopy, near-IR and mid-IR photonic technologies, mid-IR laser-based sensor systems, optical design, and chemical sensing.
  • Design and develop electronics and optomechanical components, software/hardware interfacing with knowledge of programming/simulation skills on at least a few platforms, including LABVIEW, MATLAB, CAD, Python, etc.
  • Assist the PI in project management and coordinate research group meeting across collaborators and other stakeholders.
  • Write peer-reviewed journal publications and presentations at academic conferences and other meetings.

Position Requirements

  • A Ph.D. degree with knowledge of modern photonic technologies, laser spectroscopy, optical design, materials, and devices.
  • Experience and working knowledge of semiconductor lasers, i.e., Distributed feedback, Quantum Cascade Lasers, are preferred.
  • Other desired skills include programming in LABVIEW, MATLAB, Python, Machine Learning, etc.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Ph.D. candidates with ability to graduate before hiring are also encouraged to apply.
