Position Description
The Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) seeks applicants for a position at either the tenure-track or tenured rank level in Biomechanics and Movement, with an expected start date of July 1, 2022.
We are seeking scientists and engineers with an interdisciplinary approach focusing on Biomechanics of Movement, broadly defined. Some example areas of interest include but are not limited to: (1) understanding sensorimotor control in normal and pathological movement and how the body regulates movement; (2) developing new sensing or imaging approaches that enable measurement of muscle and tissue mechanics in vivo; (3) understanding physical and biological mechanisms of musculoskeletal structure and function; (4) applied research in motor disorders; (5) design, implementation, and application of computational and data science methodologies and platforms to tackle important problems in understanding of human movement; and (6) modelling, analysis, and new control approaches for human physical interaction in co-robotic systems. In these multiple contexts, we are interested in new experimental or computational approaches for studying human movement over multiple length scales (full body and tissue level), as well as studying human movement and behavior in real-life situations.
In addition to developing a research program, successful candidates will contribute to teaching and curriculum development at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. We could expect candidates to teach in bioengineering, mechanics, robotics, data science, and design
Harvard SEAS provides a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative environment, with the opportunity to work with students and colleagues from diverse fields (bioengineering, electrical engineering, computer science, robotics, applied math), including strong connections to the Harvard Medical School and to biological and physical science departments. In addition, the candidate will further strengthen SEAS’s focus on translational life science research and will have access to shared state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and equipment for biomechanics and physiological experiments housed in Harvard’s new Science and Engineering Complex (https://www.seas.harvard.edu/about-us/visit-us/allston/science-engineering-complex).

Basic Qualifications
A doctorate or terminal degree in a related field is required by the expected start date.

In addition, we ask for a statement describing efforts to encourage diversity, inclusion, and belonging, including past, current, and anticipated future contributions to these areas. 
Candidates for a tenure-track position are also required to submit names and contact information of 3-5 referees, and the application is considered complete only when at least three letters have been received. At least one letter must come from someone who has not served as the candidate’s undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral advisor.
