Job Description

The Hesburgh Libraries of Notre Dame is seeking an energetic, goal-oriented library professional to join our team in the role of Document Delivery and Stacks Coordinator. The Document Delivery and Stacks Coordinator works as part of the Document Delivery, Stacks, and Annex Services team in the User Services Department of Hesburgh Libraries. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in managing and motivating student employees and will have an understanding of library practices.

Duties include:
  • Stacks and Collection Maintenance – Maintain the physical order of the library collections through multiple workflows. This work keeps collections, physical resources, and shelving accurate and accessible to all library users. This position requires attention to detail and the capacity to carry out tasks in an accurate manner without direct supervision, along with the ability to check one’s own work for accuracy. The person in this position will have floor assignments and associated responsibilities for a specified range of shelves.

  • Student Training and Management – Hire, train, and manage daily work assignments for a team of Document Delivery and Stacks student employees to fulfill document delivery requests and maintain the physical collections of Hesburgh Libraries. Independently identify and analyze challenges and propose and implement solutions. Monitor the quality of student employee work and perform these responsibilities when student staffing is not available.

  • Team Collaboration and Professional Development – Learning new processes and keep current with changes in library policies. When relevant, inform student employees about process and policy changes. Attend workshops and other continuing educational programs to advance skills and expertise. Assist other User Service teams (Circulation Services, Course Reserves, ILL Lending & Borrowing) when needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: One year certificate or training from college or technical school

Experience: 1 year related work experience

Skills:
  • Highly effective written and oral communication skills, demonstrating effective navigation of interpersonal relationships by actively listening, providing constructive feedback, and adapting communication styles to meet the needs of a diverse audience.
  • Outstanding organizational skills, particularly in regards to student employment administration, encompassing information management, scheduling, and budgeting.
  • Proficient computing skills utilizing productivity software including Google suite of applications.
  • Must be physically able to perform the demands of the work including: pushing fully loaded book trucks weighing up to 200 lbs, lifting heavy books, stretching, bending, kneeling, crouching, and standing for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising and evaluating the workplace performance of student employees.
  • Experience using the Library of Congress classification system to shelve books.
