Job Description:
Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.
Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.
Virginia Western Community College is accepting applications for a full-time Benefits and Policy Administrator in the Human Resources Department. This professional level Human Resources position includes strategic, consultative, and operational responsibilities. There is a concentrated focus on benefits administration throughout the employee life cycle and policy oversight, with an expectation to maintain a broad and general knowledge across all HR policies, programs, services, laws and regulations. This position works closely with college leadership to align respective departmental priorities with college policies, procedures and strategic focuses. The Benefits and Policy Administrator provides guidance, interpretation and direction, as appropriate, when navigating both routine and complex HR scenarios involving a wide variety of matters (e.g., on-boarding, accommodation requests, fridge benefits, leave, death in service, retirements, layoffs, etc.).
Minimum Qualifications:
Thorough knowledge of Human Resources programs and services, including current knowledge of pertinent laws and regulations.
Ability to effectively collaborate with diverse individuals in order to educate on and implement HR decisions aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
Ability to successfully navigate sensitive matters maintaining professionalism and protecting confidentiality.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to research complex scenarios and effectively explain the information.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, online meeting software, as well as various HR systems used for onboarding, human capital management, and/or benefits management.
Additional Considerations:
Experience managing benefits in a government setting preferred.
Experience managing benefits in a higher education setting preferred.
Experience using PeopleSoft Human Capital Management (HCM) preferred.
