Job Description:

The Associate Vice President, Facilities, reports directly to the CFO and Vice President, Administrative Services. With authority delegated by the Vice President, the Associate Vice President directs essential aspects of the Division's facilities operations to support the College's overall mission, strategic plan, and goals. The Associate Vice President is responsible for the management of all functions related to facilities services. The Associate Vice President promotes and sustains the division's commitment to excellence and innovation in serving a diverse student body and college community. The Associate Vice President assists the division in responding to emerging issues, trends, and community needs, providing internal leadership that supports MCC's regional and national reputation as a leader among best practices colleges.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Reports directly to Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Administrative Services
  • Exercises delegated authority from Vice President
  • Directs or performs essential operations related to planning, maintenance, and life cycle analysis for physical space, facilities, infrastructure and utilities; and serves as lead and liaison to internal and external parties on all construction projects
  • Provides leadership and management for Facilities, Building Services, Engineering Services
  • Develops, interprets, and manages adherence to policies, procedures and regulations
  • Exercises budget authority and administrative approvals
  • Provides and coordinates development opportunities for staff
  • Works collaboratively with the campus community, faculty, staff, and students to create a culture of student engagement and success
  • Develops and sustains productive and collaborative relationships across divisions and with other college constituencies
  • Serves as a liaison to college committees and initiatives as appropriate

  • Leads, supervises, coordinates, and evaluates any direct reports, departments and programs, adhering to appropriate college procedures
  • Responsible for adhering to the College Code of Conduct
  • Responsible for contributing to and maintaining an equitable, inclusive and collaborative College environment
  • Responsible for maintaining technological competencies utilized by the College
  • Commitment to the philosophy of a comprehensive community college
  • Works effectively within SUNY as part of a state system
  • Plans, coordinates and implements CIP projects with college department personnel, the budget and planning offices, county representatives and vendors; serves as liaison to county engineering/environmental services
  • Manages the development of the college's Master Plan and monitors related progress
  • Commitment to continued professional growth


Required Qualifications:

  • Earned master's degree in a relevant discipline from a regionally accredited higher education institution, or a bachelor's degree with 10 or more years of demonstrated equivalent work experience in a related field
  • Minimum of five years progressive administrative experience within a facilities environment
  • Documented experience in working with community, governmental, and other public sector agencies
  • Evidence of effective interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate partnerships and to work with diverse groups of faculty, students, and staff on complex issues
  • Documented ability to integrate data into decision making to promote effective practice and policy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ten or more years of demonstrated equivalent work experience in a related field
  • Professional Engineer License/Certificate
  • Industry certifications such as LEED, stationary or a mechanical engineer master's license
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to issues in Facilities Management
  • Expertise in Life Cycle Cost Analysis
  • An appreciation for true sustainable concepts incorporating both conservation and economics
  • Demonstrated experience in having a working knowledge in regulations relating to issues of Asbestos Abatement, Storm Water Management, Refrigerant Recovery, and SEQR
  • Experience working in a college environment and managing bargaining unit employees
  • Experience working in a SUNY school
  • Documented experience within an urban, comprehensive community college
  • Documented experience in operations/management of an organization
