The Access and Technical Services Librarian reports to the Director of Rimmer Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions:

  • Perform original and copy cataloging of a variety of formats of materials using current cataloging rules and appropriate techniques, including the use of Z39.50
  • Supervise the organization of the current and back issue periodical collections.
  • Manage ordering, cataloging, processing, and distribution of new materials.
  • Identify items for library collections to support collecting priorities.
  • Interact with vendors regarding efficient materials acquisition and data gathering.
  • Manages the item database of the library’s ILS software to insure accuracy, order, authoritativeness, and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with Grants Office to apply for appropriate grants for materials and/or technology.
  • Participate in staffing the circulation desk, the provision of reference services, and in library instruction programs.
  • Participate on campus committees.
  • Back-up the Public Services Librarian’s circulation and reserves management activities.
  • Gather, analyze, and distribute appropriate statistics and data using a variety of technologies and methods.
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve expertise including involvement in regional and state level organizations.
  • Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position.
  • Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Serve actively on HutchCC committees.

Secondary functions:

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Rimmer Services.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science or equivalent from an American Library Association accredited institution.
  • Expertise in MARC cataloging.
  • Working knowledge of modern integrated library automation software.
  • Ability to work independently, accept supervision and instruction, and to develop and maintain effective work relationships with many people.
  • Working familiarity with social networking and information sharing technologies.
  • Strong microcomputer skills including working familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
  • Demonstrated reference interview skills.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to perform hand motions for keyboarding, answering telephone, etc.; excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills; ability to understand words and respond effectively and appropriately; visual acuity to view a computer terminal; use appropriate judgment and to apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations; sedentary/indoor work environment
  • Mental requirements include the ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One year of experience in an academic and/or community college.
  • Familiarity with alternative forms of classification like Metadata, social tagging, etc.
