General Summary
The ECG course supports educators by providing students with consistent and efficient ECG training, necessary for patient care. The class will be held in Odessa as well as extension sites. Provide instruction and monitor teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Director or Associate Dean of Continuing Education. Develop curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the competencies addressed in the particular area in the Electrocardiograph Technician field. The candidate will be responsible for both in-person, online learning, and skills learning in addition to consistent communication with students. The instructor will use Blackboard in addition to face-to-face teaching.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience as an EKG technician or three years commensurate experience.
  • Ability to implement curriculum, testing, and/or teaching methodologies.
  • Must demonstrate enthusiasm.
  • Teaches the depth and scope of class materials as outlined in the syllabus and catalog and relates the instruction to careers and employer expectations.
  • Implements evaluation for outcomes assessment, and achieves established results while maintaining college standards of student satisfaction.
  • Works creatively and collaboratively with classes to ensure student persistence.
  • Begin and end each class at the designated times, providing a full period of instruction.
  • Responsible for keeping the classroom and/or laboratory clean, organized, and ready for the next user.
  • Provide support to students requiring additional academic assistance and tutoring.
  • Submits at designated times, grades for all students on the class roster.
  • Accurately maintains attendance records in accordance with the Attendance Policy, submits class roster daily (electronically), maintains a separate record of attendance and grades that is clearly labeled and turned in at the end of the term.
  • Calls all students who are absent and submit written reports of pertinent information to the Program Director.
  • May be required to attend adjunct instructor training, in-service meetings, and other college events.
  • Must be a self-starter and a positive role model.
  • Ability to maintain excellent working relationships with the program staff and participants.
  • Ability to teach with technology, preferred.
  • Ability to teach weekdays and weekends, preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form and ability to instruct and maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
  • Must demonstrate a strong desire to teach and help others.
  • Must be computer literate- Accounting Software, word processing, spreadsheets, and Internet (ex: Microsoft Office, Suite, and Google applications).
  • Ability to make procedural decisions on sensitive, confidential issues

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply current education methodologies and techniques
Specific Position Duties

  1. Develop course/program curriculum to address the areas of ECG technician online, face to face, or hybrid courses.
  2. Prepare lesson plans, course syllabi, and Course Verification Forms.
  3. Assess and modify teaching methods to accommodate a diverse population of participants.
  4. Keep accurate attendance records.
  5. Submit required paperwork on time.
  6. Participate in in-service training activities offered by the department.
  7. Work a flexible schedule as determined by instructional activities.
  8. Coordinate instructional activities with other faculty/staff in order to plan and promote the most effective instructional programs possible.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the CE Admin. team.
Minimum Qualifications

  • ECG Technician, LVN, or RN with experience in Telemetry, Med Surg, Intensive Care, Critical Care, or Emergency Room.
  • 3 years of work experience in ECG or relevant medical professional experience.
  • Nurse and/or ECG Technician and/or current industry certifications or licensure in health related fields.
  • Teaching experience is not required, but any teaching and/or training experience is considered.
