Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Child Health Institute of New Jersey at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
 Under the direction of the Principal Investigator the Postdoctoral Fellow will be responsible for the performance and analysis of experiments focused on the calcium signaling in mononuclear phagocytes. This project focuses on the early signals triggered in mononuclear phagocytes by different microbes or microbial molecules. The applicant should have a strong background in immunology, cell biology and be able to perform live cell imaging. In addition, the candidate will participate in lab meetings, research in progress seminars, prepare manuscripts, assist in grant writing and is expected to apply for fellowship opportunities. As part of their career development to transition to the next phase of their career, the applicant will be trained in improving their experimental design skills and their oral and written presentation skills. Multiple resources for career development to aid with these requirements will be provided by the PI. 
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Designs, performs and analyzes experiments pertaining to the study of calcium signal in mononuclear phagocytes mostly by microscopy, but also by flow cytometry. 
  • Performs live cell imaging to monitor intracellular pathways through microscopy using fluorescent probes or indicators. 
  • Generates and/or maintains primary cell cultures from rodents for live in vitro stimulation and biochemistry approaches.
  • Compiles and analyzes data with appropriate conclusions and recommendations in support of further CHI research. 
  • Reviews, analyzes and reports relevant literature and assist the PI in the preparation of manuscript and grant application relevant to the experimental work.

Minimum Education and Experience
  •  Qualified candidate must hold a PhD, DVM or MD degree in animal physiology, cell biology or Immunology.
  • Candidates in all but degree (ABD) status will also be considered.
  •  Must have prior laboratory experience in working with rodents.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  •  Must have written and published scientific articles. 
  • Must have effective oral and written communication skills; and ability to understand and communicate in English. 
  • Must be motivated, self-driven, creative and interactive. 
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 
  • Must have the ability to work collaboratively and independently 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise with two-photon microscopy.
