Gateway Community & Technical College invites applications for a Library Coordinator. This full-time staff position provides frequent and direct customer service to students and faculty regarding how to access, evaluate, and use library materials that support their coursework and research. This is a 10-month contract position that works from mid-July through mid-May of the academic term.

  • Serve as an Embedded Librarian: our program includes frequent communication with faculty and students about library resources and how to use them, teach best practices in research and citing works to students, documenting questions and answers given, along with other statistics. Blackboard is the venue where this program is facilitated.
  • With direction from the supervisor, plans, implements, and assesses a comprehensive library instruction program on a continuing basis for in-person and online students. Acts as primary point person for collecting and scheduling library instruction requests. Maintains instruction materials and works with supervisor to update as needed. Provides library instruction/training in-person and online to students, faculty, and staff. May also attend in-person or virtual orientations/tours for library usage training.
  • Monitors online chat, email, virtual, and in-person office hours.
  • Assists and instructs patrons in using and learning to independently access library databases and online library catalogs outside of the courses in which they are embedded.
  • Maintains library guides and tutorials on the library website with guidance from the library director.
  • Performs collection maintenance/development including but not limited to online resource use analysis, physical inventory, copy cataloging, de-selecting materials.
  • This position is the point person for collecting and filling interlibrary loan requests for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assists with special projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Library Informatics, Education, or equivalent.
  • 1 - 2 years of related experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 products including Microsoft Teams and school-related software like Blackboard.
  • Understands basic accounting and business functions
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Experience in and understanding of the importance of working with students from diverse populations.
  • Excellent organizational skills; high attention to detail; independent; self-motivated; able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with many individuals at all levels throughout the internal college environment as well as external business and community partners, representing his/herself in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and, in writing.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under deadlines, and prioritize projects to meet deadlines with high levels of efficiency and accuracy.
  • Must have proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree, in Library Science, Library Informatics, Education, or equivalent.
  • 3 to 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Some experience with library instruction, and/or library collection maintenance preferred
  • Experience in and understanding of the importance of working with students from diverse populations.
  • Experience working at the community college level.
