Job Title:
Post Doctoral Scholar - Conservation Social Sciences


Department:
FAES | School of Environment and Natural Resources

This person will: 1) analyze, interpret, synthesize, and apply results from the social sciences relevant to conservation; 2) communicate research results to scientific community via journal article publications, conference presentations and seminars; 3) identify issues in the field of conservation that are priorities for social science research; 4) advise and interact with graduate and/or undergraduate students in their work; 5) coordinate detailed sampling schemes approved for use in projects, and develop and maintain databases; and 6) develop, evaluate, and refine questionnaire items for use in social science surveys.

Required education/experience/skills:

  • A Doctoral degree (PhD) in an appropriate social science discipline (e.g., sociology, psychology, wildlife conservation – human dimensions). 
  • Demonstrated experience (e.g., publishing, conducting research) working in the social sciences. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with co-authors on publishing.

Desired experience/skills:

    • Experience with assessing psychosocial factors associated with noncompliant behaviors in conservation contexts (e.g., wildlife management)
    • Experience with wildlife-related tourism/visitation (e.g., on federally-managed public lands)
    • Experience with SPSS or R
