The Student Success Coach will promote student success and retention through intervention and retention programs that assist students in developing skills, behaviors, and habits that contribute to their success in college and in life. The Student Success Coach will utilize academic and personal coaching to benefit students throughout the student cycle.


· Collect, evaluate, and utilize student data to identify at-risk students and develop strategies to effectively intervene and increase student retention;

· Monitor the progress of students who have been identified as at-risk or volunteer for participation in programming;

· Evaluate faculty feedback concerning student progress in classes and communicate with students as necessary;

· Conduct regular check-ins, meetings and communications with students;

· Develop and facilitate early intervention and retention initiatives to improve student persistence and success;

· Identify roadblocks in campus processes and serve as a student advocate in addressing concerns;

· Assist students in developing academic, career, and personal goals;

· Assist students in identifying and overcoming obstacles that may be impeding their success;

· Assist students in identifying, developing and implementing learning strategies and study skills specific to course materials;

· Make referrals to appropriate student services;

· Provide one-on-one coaching related to academic success and personal development;

· Teach freshman year experience and strategies for academic success (up to 10 hours per year);

· Develop comprehensive student surveying and evaluation system/tools;

· Design programming to encourage students to use SmartThinking’s career writing and interview simulation tools

· Coordinate meetings with students who withdraw from NEO and collect documentation;

· Improve online intake/advisement services to improve NEO’s reputation as an institution that prioritizes convenience for our students;

· Invest in advising and orientation on-boarding systems that attend to students’ sense of belonging, security, and hope; employ appropriate technologies for communication and just-in-time delivery of information in favor of maximizing the time spent introducing new students to the student experience;

· Ensure that course availability matches the reality of students’ needs to balance academic pursuit with their jobs and other personal responsibilities; lead inquiry into and adaptation of best success approaches to distance, hybrid, and competency-based learning; use student success information to drive decisions about accelerated learning environments;

· Ensure students understand the full costs of attendance (beyond tuition and fees), the availability of and ease of access to financial aid and other resources;

· Use data to understand where melt and chokepoints occur in the matriculation funnel: inquiry, application, registration, orientation, attendance, satisfactory academic progress; attend to improving melt points;

· Promote services and other campus resources by developing dynamic internal/external communications plan; develop informational materials, tools and tutorials for promotion of all initiatives/services;

· Other duties as assigned.


Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution; community college experience preferred.
