A postdoctoral fellowship position is available in the Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) Clinical-Translational Research Program of Dr. Manal Abdelmalek. The focus of the program is to understand the genetic, epidemiologic and clinical risk factors for acquisition and progression of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. The overall goal of the program is to identify and characterize new non-invasive biomarkers and observational and interventional studies.

Projects involve analysis of data with support from bioinformatics / biostatistics as needed, presentation and publication of research and the opportunity to work collaboratively with top clinical-translational researcher in the field of liver disease. The post-doctoral associate will gain broad expertise in human subject research including FDA regulatory compliances.

The NAFLD Clinical-Translational Research Program is situated in the Duke Division of Gastroenterology with the Department of Medicine of the Duke School of Medicine. The program is focused on the translational of clinic to bench research, elucidating the mechanisms of chronic liver injury, and collaborating effectively with basic scientists. The lab is seeking highly motivated post-doctoral fellow to lead case-control and cohort studies, support, statistical analyses and data management for investigator and NIH sponsored clinical studies. The individual will further assist with manuscript and grant writing and will be expected to present their recent data at weekly group lab meetings as well as meet with the lab PI biweekly to discuss their ongoing work and discuss various aspects of their career development.

Required Qualifications at this Level

· Postdoctoral Appointees are encouraged to consult the AAMC Compact Between Postdoctoral Appointees and Their Mentors for suggested guidelines for the Postdoctoral Appointee-mentor relationship

Education/Training: The Postdoctoral Appointee holds a PhD or equivalent doctorate (e.g. ScD, MD, DVM). Candidates with non-US degrees may be required to provide proof of degree equivalency.

Experience:

· Motivated and have a strong background in clinical-translational research

· Knowledge in data-management, data abstraction and biostatistics.

· Conscientious conduct of research or scholarship responsibility with

conformance to standard of responsible conduct in research and good

scholarly and research practice.

Expectations:

· Maintenance of laboratory notebook and /or other comparable records of

research activity, which remains the property of Duke University upon

termination.

· Adherence to University standard regarding handling of chemical, reagents,

animal and human subject research data and/or material and the like.

· Open and timely discussion with program director / mentor regarding all

facets of the post-doctoral appointee’s research activities.

· Postdoctoral Appointees are encouraged to consult the AAMC Compact Between Postdoctoral Appointees and Their Mentors for suggested guidelines for the Postdoctoral Appointee-mentor relationship

· Prompt disclosure to the mentor regarding the possession and desire to distribute materials, reagents, software, copyrightable and potentially patentable discoveries derived from the Postdoctoral Appointee's research.

· Collegial conduct towards members of the research group and others as described in the Duke University School of Medicine Honor Code of Professional Conduct and other relevant conduct policies pertaining to other schools at Duke University.
