Outreach and Development Coordinator: Job Description

The Heartland Center for Jobs and Freedom enforces the employment, consumer and housing rights of low-wage workers while supporting movements fighting for a racially and economically just society.

We are at an exciting juncture. For years, we drove our nonprofit work with a scrappy staff of two and a band of dedicated volunteers and interns. That hard work has paid off, allowing us to grow and have more impact. We are now a team of four attorneys and two coordinators. We need to sustain that growth and tap into wide unmet potential. The Outreach and Development Coordinator will help us deepen our roots and achieve new heights.

The position requires ambition, an ability to set and follow through on benchmarks, and have an independent, self-starter attitude while working in a highly collaborative setting.

The position will also draw upon the coordinator’s creativity, writing, and storytelling skills, whether on social media and our website, or grant reports and proposals.

MSW’s are highly encouraged to apply. We handle high-volume eviction defense work and the applicant will assist some tenants with housing searches, accessing benefits, and addressing clients’ other social work needs.

Because of the Heartland Center’s small size, the Outreach and Development Coordinator will be expected fill multiple roles. This will provide the opportunity for the coordinator to develop and hone different skills (with never a dull moment), but also necessitate flexibility and a willingness to manage some administrative matters.

The coordinator will work closely with the Executive Director. The duties will include:
