Posting Summary
The Department of Marine & Coastal Sciences is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to conduct research on nutrient cycling and biomineralization in deep-sea corals. The position will be for 12 months beginning on or about October 1, 2021.  It will expected that the individual have expertise in coral biology and ecology, molecular evolution, and biochemistry that will allow the design of interdisciplinary experiments to test the evolution of apo symbiotic and symbiotic corals.  The individual will be expected to participate in the configuration and maintenance of instrumentation necessary for conduct of the project. It will be expected that their research will lead to publications and the preparation of manuscripts, as well as contribute to the preparation of grant and fellowship applications. The Postdoctoral Associate will be also be expected to be highly collaborative and train and mentor undergraduates in scientific research projects.

Minimum Education and Experience
Required to have completed a doctoral (Ph.D.) level program in marine or a related field.  
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ph.D. candidates must have demonstrated expertise in at least two of the following areas: marine ecology, microbial genomics, biogeochemistry, bioinformatics, and molecular evolution.
The candidate will be expected to be proficient in spoken and written English. 
Prior experience with basic absorption spectroscopy and molecular biology is desired. 
Previous mentoring experience is desirable.  
Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Computer data input required. Ability to use computing resources and perform bench-laboratory experiments. 
Laboratory environment. Universal precautions are mandatory.
