The Rutgers University-Newark Counseling Center (RUN-CC) invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral associate responsible for providing clinical services, including individual and group therapies, assessment, crisis intervention, and outreach and training to university students. RUN-CC is a thriving center that provides mental health services to a diverse population of college students. This position will work closely with the Counseling Center staff and will have the opportunity to participate in a large, multisite NIMH-funded study examining treatment for suicidal college students (Principal Investigator: Shireen Rizvi, PhD).

Under the weekly supervision of licensed psychologists, the associate will provide an array of evidenced-based treatments to support students in distress. In addition to having a general expert knowledge of mental health and psychological functioning, the ideal candidate will have specialized training or interest in working with diverse populations. Candidates should also have interest in and knowledge of the developmental tasks facing college students, interest in working with diverse university students, experience in psychotherapy and crisis intervention, and understanding and experience in assessment and report writing.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to accrue requisite hours for licensure and support in preparing for the Examination for the Professional Practice of Psychology. As part of the NIMH study, the postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to be fully trained by experts in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS). The annual non-negotiable salary of $50,000 with benefits is set for 40 hours/week beginning August 2021.

Responsibilities:
1. Provide individual, group, and couples counseling.
2. Provide crisis intervention.
3. Provide outreach and consultation to campus community.
4. Participate in weekly supervision, case consultations, and CC staff meetings.

Minimum Education and Experience

Qualifications:
1. REQUIRED – PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology (or closely related field) obtained by August 2021.
2. Experience and interest in counseling and psychotherapy with diverse populations.
3. Understanding of laws and documentation requirements related to collegiate
mental health.
4. Ability to work collaboratively with others and with other departments within the
Division of Student Affairs as well as other campus/academic departments.
5. Demonstrated cultural competence in working with a diverse student population
(e.g., race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability, etc.).
