Overview
New Jersey’s academic health center, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) takes an integrated approach to educating students, providing clinical care, and conducting research, all with the goal of improving human health. Aligned with Rutgers University–New Brunswick and collaborating university wide, RBHS includes eight schools, a behavioral health network, and five centers and institutes that focus on cancer treatment and research, neuroscience, advanced biotechnology and medicine, environmental and occupational health, and health care policy and aging research.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research. 
The Institute for Health, HealthCare Policy, and Aging Research at Rutgers University is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to work on multiple behavioral medicine research projects. These projects examine the intersection of psychosocial processes and health and healthcare outcomes, to support future intervention development. Population of focus will primarily be patients with cancer, with an emphasis on patient coping, treatment decision-making, quality of life, and end-of-life care among patients with advanced disease. Related projects may include examinations of oncologist behavior, caregiver impact, and use of claims data. The fellowship offers the opportunity to build expertise and receive advanced training in psycho-oncology, behavioral health, supportive/palliative care, and health service research. The incoming fellow will be responsible for supporting and leading ongoing and new projects. Routine activities will include protocol development, data analysis, manuscript writing, grant writing, and research presentations. The fellow will have opportunities for authorship, and participation in didactics at the Institute for Health and other units across Rutgers University, such as the Cancer Institute of New Jersey and the Schools of Medicine and Nursing. The position will work under the direction of Login George, PhD, Assistant Professor at the Institute for Health, Healthcare Policy, and Aging Research and the School of Nursing. Primary host location will be the Institute for Health. The Institute, established in 1985, facilitates collaboration among the social and behavioral sciences, clinical disciplines, basic sciences, and related fields to promote research on critical health and mental health issues. The institute brings together scholars across and beyond Rutgers into a vibrant interdisciplinary network that advances high-quality research in five core areas: behavioral health, health economics, social determinants of health and illness, state health policy, and health services research.
 Among the key duties of this position are the following: 
  • Assist with study design and execution: write study protocols, conduct literature reviews; oversee data collection. 
  • Data analysis: apply appropriate statistical methods to data to answer request questions; consult and coordinate with data managers and statisticians as needed. 
  • Assist with grant writing: conduct literature reviews; draft sections; participate in grant development meetings. 
  • Manuscript writing: Draft research manuscripts describing theoretical background, research methods, and findings; create tables and figure conveying study results.
