Required Minimum Qualifications:
Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited school and 2 years of related experience. Licensed to practice law in the State of Iowa.


Preferred Qualifications:
Two years’ experience advising agricultural clients in taxation, business entity, or estate / transition planning matters (LLM or M.S. or CPA designation may substitute for the experience)
Demonstrated experience with legal research and writing (writing sample will be required)
Commitment to the Land Grant Mission
CPA, LLM, or M.S. or B.S. in accounting, taxation, agricultural economics, or related field
Teaching experience
 


Job Description:

Summary
The Center for Agricultural Law & Taxation (CALT) at Iowa State University is looking for an attorney with experience in agricultural taxation, business entity, and estate / transition planning matters to join our team. The position will be responsible for developing, writing, and editing in-depth, yet practical, resources primarily for agricultural producers and their advisors focused on taxation, business structures, and estate / transition planning. These resources will include print and online publications and communications, as well as webinar and seminar materials. The position will also provide direct instruction to stakeholders at seminars, workshops, and webinars. The successful applicant will have professional experience with the subject matter, as well as demonstrated excellence in legal research and writing.

This position, which may be performed remotely, is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated professional to strengthen their expertise in agricultural taxation, business entities, and estate planning and provide trusted, objective educational resources to a nationwide audience.


Example of Duties

• Develops and presents legal educational programming.
• May conduct legal workshops or seminars.
Informs constituents on federal and state laws, statutes, regulations
• Confers with other staff while analyzing and interpreting the impact of laws and regulations on the agricultural sector.
Reviews and interprets legal documents.

May perform a variety of services including developing and delivering training on laws and regulations, conducting legal research, and working with constituents, policymakers, University partners, and other institutions to deliver leading-edge programming for the agricultural sector.

Level Guidelines
• Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals
• Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues
• Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems
• Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests
• May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff
• May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity
• Provides guidance to students
