DESCRIPTION

Under direct supervision, acquires skills and knowledge of professional concepts in acquisition and research data analysis of confocal microscopy and super-resolution imaging datasets. Works on small projects or segments of projects with limited scope and complexity. Will routinely perform quality control of imaging datasets, deconvolution, segmentation, and spatial analysis. Help establish a pipeline for rigorous analysis of STED datasets. Perform RNA sequencing experiments and downstream analysis. Perform a range of wet lab techniques including RNA in situ hybridization and immunostaining. Will be expected to help with shared lab duties including animal colony management, ordering, chemical inventory, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Theoretical knowledge of biology or similar generally acquired through a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Acquiring knowledge of data acquisition and analysis abilities required to perform research analysis duties.

  • Acquiring statistical analysis, systems programming, and database design skills to perform research analysis duties.

  • Ability to effectively manage time and see assigned parts of projects through to completion on deadline.

  • Basic consultation and communication skills.

  • Acquire wet lab skills including sample preparation for RNA sequencing, RNA staining, and immunostaining

  • Ability to exercise judgement, initiative and resourcefulness in identifying problems with the lab, discussing with the PI and implementing corrective action.

  • Skill to plan and organize work assignments in a efficient and productive manner.

  • Perform accurate record keeping and organize and calculate data.

  • Basic knowledge of medical and scientific terminology.

  • Strong computer skills and experience with the operation of all basic software application such as Word and Excel.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy and flexibility. Ability to work independently and/or in a team framework in conjunction with principles of community and in a lab environment that interacts with a diverse group of research and technical personnel and other laboratories.

  • Knowledge of basic lab safety requirements/procedures; EH&S regulations and methods for handling, clean-up, and waste disposal for biohazardous materials and radioisotopes and regulations for safe recordkeeping.

  • Knowledge of UCSD/EH&S procedures for lab safety.

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to plan effectively.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $55,374 - $66,064 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $26.52 - $31.64

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
