A Postdoctoral Associate position is available, starting June 2021 in the Drea Lab at Duke University

The Drea Lab at Duke University is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Associate to begin in June 2021. We are seeking candidates whose primary research interests include microbial ecology. The associate will be expected to collaborate with existing lab members working on the long-term effects of antibiotics and fecal transfaunation on the glandular microbiomes of lemurs, with particular focus on the effects of treatment on the animals’ associated chemical signals. Candidates must have a Ph.D. from an accredited institution in a discipline appropriate to the biological sciences, as well as relevant research experience. Successful candidates will be expected to analyze chemical datasets, apply analytical tools across integrated datasets, participate in training graduate students, and contribute to mentoring undergraduate students. The position is for one year with possible renewal contingent on satisfactory performance.

Candidates must have: 1) completed a Ph.D. from an accredited institution in a discipline appropriate to the biological sciences; 2) demonstrated research experience using integrated approaches, with peer-reviewed publications; 3) evidence of a commitment to student learning at the undergraduate and graduate levels; 4) potential to initiate and develop an externally funded research program; 5) effective oral and written communication skills, and 6) the ability to interact and collaborate effectively with diverse colleagues and students.

Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated ability in:  custom bioinformatics for shotgun metagenomic sequencing data; 2) complex, multivariate statistics/modeling, 3) obtaining extramural funding, and 4) promoting the success of students.  Application materials include: a curriculum vitae; a description of research interests; and contact information (including telephone numbers and e-mail addresses) for three professional references.
