The administrative leader responsible for creating programs to promote student academic success by integrating and coordinating all areas of student academic support – the Academic Success Center, the Math (STEM) Center, the Critical Thinking/Writing Center, Alluvion, and TRIO into a seamless student support network. Leads the Academic Success Center to coordinate academic advising, facilitate academic tutoring, participate in the registration process of first-year and transfer students, develop academic plans for students in coordination with University academic departments and faculty, and provide mentoring and advising to a portfolio of students as an academic success counselor.
- Integrate all student programs and resources to ensure that students experience academic success, receive appropriate support, mentoring, advising, and intervention, leading to appropriate academic development, academic achievement and successful graduation.
- Oversee each of the support areas – TRIO, the Academic Success Center and the Alluvion Wellness Center.
- Collaborates with the Critical Thinking/Writing Center, and the Math/STEM Center, providing appropriate leadership and administrative oversite to directors and staff.
- Establish strategic initiatives and a departmental culture that creates synergies among Student Success and Student Engagement programs and personnel to support student achievement and excellence.
- Collaborate with the Library Director to establish the library as a centralized resource for promoting and facilitating academic achievement and excellence.
- Coordinate with the Vice President for Student and Community Engagement, the Dean of Student Engagement, the Director of the Career Center, the Director of Mission Integration, and the Director of the Core Curriculum, to ensure that Service Learning and the Corps of Discovery are deeply integrated into the student support network and resources.
- Partner with Division Chairs to ensure close partnership between faculty and student support staff, ultimately integrating teaching, advising, and student academic needs.
- In collaboration with the Vice President for Student and Community Engagement, the Provost, and the Director of Institutional Research, develop and implement assessment strategies to determine program effectiveness, measure student development, and inform continuous improvement and innovation.
- Serve as divisional representative on the Provost Council.
- Work collaboratively with the Vice President for Enrollment in actively promoting the benefits and outcomes of Academic Success Center and student success initiatives in the recruitment of students.
- Work collaboratively with the Academic Division Chairs to effectively communicate the activities and outcomes of the department, actively seek comment and feedback, respond with the development of new initiatives, maintain positive working relationships, and promote collaboration between the academic divisions and student academic support services.
- Oversee the work/study students assigned to the academic support departments.
- Partner with the Vice President for Student and Community Engagement and the CFO to manage academic student support departmental budgets.
- Actively and effectively manage financial resources and budgets within institutional guidelines and procedures, approve expenditures, and participate in an annual budget review process.
- Effectively manage staff resources by conducting performance reviews, evaluating staff, and creating professional development plans.
- Partner with Vice President of Student and Community Engagement and Director of HR (if necessary) to address any performance or behavioral issues, following the guidelines outlined and approved in the Employee Policy Manual.
- Provide reports and data regarding student experience, student retention, and other analytics to be used in the development and assessment of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the department.
- Provide leadership and overall administration of the Academic Success Center, including operations, budget and staffing.
- Collaborate with the directors of the Writing and Critical Thinking Center and the STEM Center to provide comprehensive tutoring services for UP students.
- Direct the Academic Success Center planning, development, and implementation of programs.
- Develop programs and participate in the Advising and Registration of first-year students and transfer students.
- Develop proactive and effective intervention programs and support programs for all students who may experience academic difficulty or need mental health resources, particularly those on academic alert, with low mid-term grades, and on probation, suspension or warning.
- Coordinate the resources: technology, financial, and staffing, necessary to maintain and operate the academic alert system.
- Conduct exit interviews with withdrawing or non-returning students.
- Facilitate the assignment of students to Academic Success Counselors, including the assignment of athletic teams.
- Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a manner that is supportive of and aligns with the University of Providence (UP) and Providence St. Joseph Health (PSJH) mission and philosophy.

Essential Position Competencies and Requirements
- Master’s Degree required in Counseling, Education, or related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in higher education and academic leadership.
- Knowledge and understanding of student learning and student development models.
- Experience working with college populations (undergraduate, graduate, online, Veterans, ESL, or International).
- Proficient computer skills and a working knowledge of software programs and communication methods; Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint) and Microsoft Teams.
- Working knowledge of Banner, Degree Works, Recruit/Slate, and Academic Alert Systems.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills is required.
- Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision and excellent time management skills is required.
