The Department of Kinesiology and Health at Rutgers University – New Brunswick invites applicants for a Research Associate position in area of Psychophysiology to begin immediately. Candidates with expertise in addiction, cognitive psychology, interoception, and quantitative methods are encouraged to apply. Preferred qualifications include a focus on the use of psychophysiological methods to probe the cardiovascular system to better understand cognitive-emotional regulation. Responsibilities of the position include contributing to management and use of a large base of psychophysiology, psychological, and behavioral data, designing and implementing psychophysiological studies, post-processing cardiovascular signals, oversight of research assistants, and dissemination of research findings through publications and presentations. The ideal candidate will be able to work collaboratively across disciplinary boundaries to advance research related to substance use behaviors and health.
Competitive candidates will be broadly trained in relevant sub-disciplines of addiction, autonomic nervous system physiology, cognitive psychology, and psychophysiology. An interoception specialty is preferred to complement other existing areas of expertise within the Cardiac Neuroscience Laboratory, Department of Kinesiology and Health and the Center of Alcohol and Drug Studies.

Minimum Education and Experience

• PhD in Cognitive Psychology or a closely related field.
• Two or more years of Postdoctoral training in addiction and psychophysiology.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required
• Ability to organize and use large complex (multi-level) data bases.
• Expertise in cardiovascular assessment and post-processing.

Preferred
• Advanced quantitative methods including Bayesian statistics.
• A record of research productivity as demonstrated by high-quality, peer-reviewed scientific publications.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
• A demonstrated ability to use technology in innovative ways to enhance experimental designs.
