Education Manager

The Archie Bray Foundation seeks a full-time Education Manager to join and support an organization dedicated to enrichment of the ceramic arts.

Organization

The Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts (Bray) is an internationally recognized arts organization located in Helena, Montana. Founded in 1951, the Bray is a public, nonprofit organization offering artist residencies, public exhibitions, ceramic supplies, and educational workshops and community classes for adults and children.

The Bray’s facilities include year-round and seasonal artist studios, education and research facility, sales gallery, rotating exhibition spaces, kiln facilities, administrative offices and a manufacturing and retail ceramic supply operation. The Bray recently completed a $6 million capital campaign for a new education center (2017), renovated administrative offices (2018) and new sales, exhibition and history galleries (wrapping up in early- to mid-2021).

Mission

The Archie Bray Foundation is actively committed to promoting, celebrating, and sustaining the ceramic arts through the residency program, education, gallery, ceramic materials, and technology, and community engagement on a local, national, and international scale. In the words of Archie himself, the Bray makes available, “for all who are seriously and sincerely interested in any of the branches of the ceramic arts, a fine place to work”.

Summary of Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for providing leadership, planning, organization, and implementation of an annual education program that includes a community class program, workshops and outreach initiatives. They will work closely with instructors, students and members of the Bray program staff. The Education Manager, with support staff, will oversee the operation and maintenance of the Education Facility. The ideal candidate will have strong experience related to community education programs, the professional skills, administrative strengths and personal qualities to thrive in a fast-paced, creative environment. Most importantly, they must be motivated to further the mission of the Bray, one of the leading ceramic arts organizations in the world. The Bray is located in historic Helena, Montana, a small and artistically supportive community with close access to outdoor recreation and reasonable cost of living.

Hours: 40 hours/week; typically, M-F, 9am to 5pm. Occasional weekend days or evenings may be required.

Compensation and Benefits: Hourly pay range is $18-20/hour and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a permanent, full-time, hourly, non-exempt position. Paid health insurance, accrued Paid Time Off (PTO = combined vacation time and sick leave) paid vacation during Christmas/New Year’s and other benefits as described by Foundation policies. Requirements

The Education Manager should possess the following personal skills and attributes: • Experience managing a community educational program/classroom environment • Knowledge of ceramic materials, processes and techniques • Ability to multi-task and maintain attention to detail • Strong communication, organizational and time management skills • Excellent customer service skills • Energetic and collaborative personality with self-starter approach to work • Computer proficiency • Ability to occasionally lift and move objects up to 50 pounds safely Duties Community Classes: • Develop annual class schedule to coordinate with the Bray’s calendar of events • Create course offerings that caters to a wide range of ages and ceramic abilities • Recruit, train and manage artists to be community class instructors • Manage and oversee education program studio technician and firing schedule • Maintain regular correspondence with students • Coordinate publicity with the Director of Communications • Ensure class facilities and equipment are maintained properly • Manage class registration program and ensure participant payments are received for both class and firing fees • Maintain database records • Distribute, collect and review student evaluation forms • Program development (special topics, etc.) • Provide technical assistance to students Workshops and Outreach: • Prepare logistical details for workshops o Ensure needs of the visiting artists/instructors are met o Train workshop assistants o Coordinate travel and housing for visiting artists/instructors o Coordinate materials with Clay Business and equipment needed • Program and coordinate educational outreach with program partners • Coordinate publicity related to workshops with the Director of Communications • Manage registration and process payments and maintain database • Distribute, collect and review evaluation forms • Registration and participant communications

Other Duties:

• Manage interns in education program • Participates in weekly staff meetings • Schedules group tours of the Bray grounds • As assigned To Apply Early submissions are encouraged.
