JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at The Pennsylvania State University has an opening for an Assistant Research Professor to analyze eclipsing binary observations from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS).

The ideal candidate will have:

  • at least 6 years experience with analyzing light curves, radial velocities, and spectral energy distributions to characterize detached eclipsing binaries
  • at least 3 years experience identifying and validating eclipsing binaries and transiting exoplanets in photometric survey data-competency in IDL and Python and familiarity with publicly available eclipsing binary modeling software in these languages
  • at least two years of post-PhD experience with the aforementioned skills and subjects
  • a strong track record of publications that reflect their skills in the aforementioned areas

A PhD in Physics, Astronomy, or a closely related field is required. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
