Working at MIT offers opportunities, an environment, a culture – and benefits – that just aren’t found together anywhere else. If you’re curious, motivated, want to be part of a unique community, and help shape the future – then take a look at this opportunity.

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, MAMMALIAN SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY, Biological Engineering-Synthetic Biology Center -Weiss Lab  (2 openings), to join an interdisciplinary academic research lab seeking to create integrated biological systems capable of autonomously performing useful tasks and to elucidate the design principles underlying the engineering of complex cellular and tissue phenotypes. Will work with a team of researchers, principal investigators (PIs), and lab manager to participate in government- and corporate-sponsored research programs in the area of mammalian synthetic biology, including neuromorphic synthetic biology and other areas of mammalian synthetic biology. These mammalian genetic circuits will sense cell state, including mRNA, miRNA, metabolites, etc., and implement feedback control and analog, digital, and “neural” logic functions that result in precise spatiotemporal responses such as transcription factors for differentiation, vascularization, cell-cell communication, etc.  Will design sophisticated genetic circuits and assays; collect data using state-of-the-art techniques, including flow cytometry, RT-qPCR, next-generation sequencing, ELISA, and other analytic technologies; and use computational skills for working with cross-functional teams for microfluidic and high-throughput scale-up and data analysis.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Ph.D. in biological sciences, computer science, engineering, physics, math, or related field; experience in at least one of the following--mammalian cell culture, large scale DNA assembly and characterization, genetic recombination technology, next-generation sequencing, computational methods and tools for analysis, and statistics; biological experience in molecular biology, protein engineering, immunology, and/or cell biology; ability to prioritize, perform multiple tasks, and execute detailed technical protocols meticulously; strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills; ability to work collaboratively and on individual projects in a dynamic, multidisciplinary, team-oriented setting; and ability to communicate effectively--both verbally and in writing--and make presentations to the scientific community through talks and publications.  Job #19609
