The Assistant Vice President of Compensation is the strategic lead in the conceptualization, development, implementation, and evaluation of SNHU’s job architecture design and compensation programs. The AVP will establish the strategy, direction, programs, and framework to ensure top talent is attracted, rewarded, and retained.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pro-actively support the business goals of the University

  • Advice and counsel senior leadership on compensation strategies and long-term impacts

  • Develop compensation programs that attract, retain, and motivate high performing employees

  • Serve as subject-matter expert on compensation laws and regulations for a non-profit institution of higher education to ensure compliance

  • Develop compensation strategies that are competitive, fair and equitable

  • Devise and design methods to continually improve the overall effectiveness of compensation services and programs

  • Set appropriate infrastructure to manage jobs (families/functions, pay grades, job data storage) and salary schedule updates

  • Determine salary survey and market comparison data strategy

  • Lead conceptualizing, designing, implementing, and evaluating direct and indirect reward and pay delivery systems that support the recruitment and retention of top talent

  • Lead the development and implementation of a performance-based incentive compensation program.

  • Provide consulting support for changes at all levels, including competitive pay strategies, salary increase practices, bonus structures, pay for performance plans, promotional philosophy, and total compensation approaches

  • Work closely with HR partners and senior leaders to review and revise the University's compensation plans, programs, and policies

  • Provide accurate data and key insights to assist in setting University compensation strategy, planning, and programming

  • Partner with the HR Operations to ensure technology is fully leveraged and provided the appropriate compensation support, insights and tools to managers

  • Responsible for the university compensation communication strategy

  • Participate in collective bargaining compensation strategy development and negotiation preparation

  • Champion a culture of engagement and belonging by providing leadership in an environment that actively promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Develop and effectively coach the classification and compensation team

  • Perform other related duties as required

  • Use metrics to evaluate effectiveness

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required, Master’s strongly preferred

  • Compensation certification preferred

  • Minimum of 10 years leadership experience in developing and executing competitive compensation strategy in a matrixed, complex environment

  • Experience with regulations that govern FLSA, executive compensation, non-profit compensation compliance and plan design of compensation.

  • Must have excellent business acumen, strong strategic planning, financial and analytical skills.

  • Superior ability to communicate, influence, persuade, negotiate, gain the confidence of, and advise senior leadership on sensitive issues.

  • Ability to work well under pressure, balance multiple priorities and produce results.

  • Must demonstrate history of collaborating successfully with cross-functional business leaders including the ability to form relationships at all levels of the organization.

  • Must have proven experience with building and developing a high performing team.

Work Hours

Typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm with flexibility to meet business demands as needed.
