The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Virginia is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the lab of Professor Bill Epling.

The successful candidate will perform reactor experiments to characterize catalyst performance under periodic reactor operating conditions. The successful candidate will need to design experiments to determine how the periodic operation influences the catalyst surfaces and thus the kinetics. Form these data, the successful candidate will develop the reaction kinetics and mechanisms.  Requirements of the position include strong background in heterogeneous catalysis and IR spectroscopy. Research will also include studying emissions control catalysts, requiring the same skill sets. The candidate will work with current graduate students and train new graduate students, assist with data collection, analysis and reporting, and manuscript writing.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or related field is required by the start date.  Required skills include IR spectroscopy, heterogeneous catalysis reactor design and use, mass spectrometry and kinetic expression development. Experience with MatLab is preferred.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:  Apply online at https://uva.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/UVAJobs   and attach a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Review of applications will begin on May 24, 2021, but the position will remain open until filled.

This is a one-year appointment; however, the appointment may be renewed for an additional one year, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.

For questions regarding this position, please contact Bill Epling, Professor, at wse2t@virginia.edu
For questions about the application process, please contact Richard Haverstrom, Faculty Search Advisor, at rkh6j@Virginia.edu.
