Position Summary

 

NIH-funded postdoctoral research position is available in the laboratory of Qiong (Annabel) Wang, in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology at the City of Hope Beckman Research Institute.

 

The Wang laboratory studies the function and remodeling of fat tissue, both in physiological and pathological conditions, such as insulin resistance, obesity, and cancer.

 

Work in the lab utilizes the cutting-edge tissue-specific, inducible knockout and labeling mouse models (Nature Medicine, 2013; Nature Cell Biology, 2015). Besides in vivo metabolic phenotyping and lineage tracing, our lab routinely performs single-cell sequencing, 3D tissue imaging, as well as new assay development. The Wang lab is currently focusing on three areas: 1) Brown fat cell heterogeneity, and how this heterogeneity remodels the thermogenic capacity of brown adipocytes in health and disease (Journal of Clinical Investigation, 2020). 2) adipocyte remodeling in the mammary gland, and adipocyte-epithelium cross talk in health, metabolic disorders, and breast cancer (Cell Metabolism, 2018). 3) Aging-associated adiposity and metabolic disorders.

We are seeking an independent and highly motivated candidate interested in studying the molecular, cellular, and metabolic mechanisms leading to obesity, diabetes, and cancer. Preferably with expertise in using mouse models to study metabolic diseases.

 


Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree in life or biomedical sciences, or a related discipline is required.

Extensive experience in basic molecular biology skills.

Experience in animal models.

Experience in immunofluorescence staining and flow cytometry, or scRNA-seq analysis.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Good problem-solving skills, ability to conduct independent research, ability to work effectively in a team.
